6 Things to Know About Garage Door Spring Replacement

At some point, your garage door may begin to malfunction because of a problem with your garage door springs. The following are six things to know about garage door spring replacement.

Spring replacement is one of the most common garage door repairs.

One key thing to know about spring replacement is that it is one of the most common garage door repair needs. If you are experiencing a garage door malfunction, it is therefore fairly likely that you're in need of a garage door spring replacement.

Malfunctioning garage door springs can create safety hazards.

Garage door owners should know that a malfunctioning garage door spring could create a safety hazard. Garage door springs are under a great deal of pressure. When they malfunction, it's possible that they can come loose and cause injuries.

Because spring malfunctions can be hazardous, it's important that homeowners don't try DIY garage door spring replacement. It's always best to leave this garage door repair task to the professionals.

Jerky garage door movement could indicate spring problems.

It helps if garage door owners know some basics about recognizing spring problems. One common sign that a garage door needs a spring replacement is jerky functioning. If a garage door doesn't move smoothly when opening and closing, chances are there is a spring that needs to be replaced.

You may need to have garage door springs replaced if your garage door won't open all the way.

Garage door springs might need attention if the garage door isn't opening as it should. Another common sign of spring issues is a garage door that only opens by a few inches.

It's best to stop using your garage door until it's repaired if you suspect spring issues.

Homeowners may want to simply stop using their garage door if they know they're having a spring issue until they can schedule a spring replacement. This is the best way to ensure that a garage door with spring issues won't cause any injuries or accidents.

Spring replacement may be covered under your garage door warranty.

Most garage doors come along with warranty coverage when they are initially installed. Warranty coverage will in many cases pay for the costs of spring replacement. If you know you need new springs in your garage door, you should look over the details of your warranty. Make sure that you aren't eligible for warranty coverage before you pay out of pocket for your spring replacement.
