Keeping the Construction Industry Going

The construction industry has struggled a bit in recent years. This is not because there's not amazing technology out there to make construction easier. There's tons of technology, and it's amazing! Rather, the struggle seems to be that there is a shortage of labor. Many young people are not as interested in working in construction anymore. We hope that we can do our part to change that. In posting on this blog, we hope to reach a wide audience, including young people who may want to work as contractors. There are excellent jobs in the industry, and learning the basics on this blog can set you up for success.

Resurfacing Your Hardwood Flooring

Refinishing hardwood floors can give your home a new look, but it is necessary to take proper care of them after refinishing. Some tips will help you prepare for this major home improvement project.

Be Prepared For The Fumes The Refinishing Process Can Create

Refinishing hardwood floors can create potent fumes that can be harmful if inhaled. Therefore, preparing for these fumes before starting the refinishing process is critical. Ensuring the space is well-ventilated is one approach to achieving this. Open the windows and the doors to let fresh air enter the room. You may also use fans to increase the air cycling in the area to reduce these fumes.

Stay Off The Floors Until They Fully Cure

After refinishing, the floors need several days to cure before you use them. Staying off the hardwood floors during this time is vital to prevent footprints and other marks from ruining the finish. While it may be tempting to walk on the floors and enjoy your newly refinished space, it is essential to be patient and wait for the floors to cure.

You can accelerate the curing by raising the room's temperature and lowering the humidity. This will expedite the drying and curing of the finish. If you are unsure how long to wait before walking on the floors, your hardwood flooring specialist can let you know the estimated time the new finish needs.

Keep Dust Off The Newly Finished Floors

Dust accumulations can dull the floors and reduce the air quality in your home. Therefore, preventing dust from accumulating on your newly refinished floors is crucial. You can accomplish this by frequently sweeping or vacuuming the floors. You can also clean the floors with a dust mop or a soft-bristled broom. You should consider using doormats to prevent dirt and debris from being tracked inside your home. This will help reduce the accumulation of dust on your flooring.

Protect The Refinished Floors From Furniture Scratches

Moving furniture back into place can easily scratch the newly refinished floors. This is a common source of damage that may occur soon after the refinishing process. For example, individuals may drag the furniture across the floors and leave deep gashes. To prevent this from happening, you should use footpads or sliding mats under these furniture items. These will help prevent scratches and other marks from ruining the finish. Luckily, these pads are affordable and represent a small investment in keeping your floors safe.
